Foundation and Early years

It was founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR Football Club. In the early years of its existence, the club struggled to find success, and it was not until 1902 that it was able to secure a place in the Football League. The club went on to win its first major trophy in 1908 when it won the FA Cup.

Manchester United continued to enjoy some success in the early years of the 20th century, but it was not until the arrival of legendary manager Sir Matt Busby in 1945 that the club began to establish itself as a dominant force in English and European football.

Tragedy 1958

However, tragedy struck in 1958 when the team's plane crashed while attempting to take off from Munich Airport, killing 23 people, including eight players. Despite this devastating setback, Busby was able to rebuild the team, and Manchester United went on to win the European Cup ten years later.

Busby's Leadership

Under Busby's leadership, Manchester United won five First Division titles, two FA Cups, and one European Cup. The team that won the European Cup in 1968, which included players such as George Best, Bobby Charlton, and Denis Law, is still regarded as one of the greatest teams in the history of the sport.
